♟ memory 013.

Memory regained: Neutral Negative - Chickening out with chocolate (implied in Valentine's Day tweets)
Date: Day 62
Game won: The Witch's game

Memory:

This is a memory that...starts out with baking chocolates.

Honmei chocolates, to be specific - today's Valentine's Day, and this year is the year you're going to do it. This year, you'll finally work up the courage to give him this token of affection.

The actual baking of the chocolate is easy - this isn't the first year you've tried to confess your feelings, and so you're able to make and decorate the chocolates with relative ease and expertise. Maybe it's to your benefit that you've tried and failed so many times, though, since the chocolates turn out looking great.

As you start boxing up the chocolates, the nervous butterflies return - how is he going to respond? You remind yourself that if you say it's a gift of thanks for all he's done for you over the years, perhaps he'll be less likely to respond negatively. It's a mantra you repeat to yourself as you leave the school kitchen, heading through the hallways toward his room.

...Until you hear his familiar voice calling your (unfortunately obscured) name. You spin around, automatically hiding your chocolates as you turn to face a very familiar cow, albeit with both of his eyes still intact.

The topic of the small conversation between you two seems to be forgotten in favor of the worries that keep growing in your head - this is a bad idea, the best-case scenario is that he tells you he's not interested but doesn't get angry, you only want to confess because you're selfish. Little by little, your self-confidence crumbles away, until the chocolates feel like nothing more than a heavy weight in your hand.

When your conversation comes to an end, he seems to stop before leaving before asking if you're alright; your face looks funny. It would be the perfect time to confess, but the doubts from earlier are still sticking in your throat, and so you tell him that it is nothing and that you'll see him later.

He walks away, and you wait until he's past the corner before pulling out the chocolates and throwing them in the nearest trash can.

...Maybe next year.
